Shopify Website Design · South Africa
Shopify website design, built in Cape Town to sell across South Africa — and beyond.
Intellium Inc. is a Cape Town web design agency that builds Shopify stores for South African businesses — design, migration, SA payment gateways and POPIA-compliant checkout, all handled for you.
We're currently building Shopify stores for SA and UK brands. If you're selling online — or want to — let's build you a store that actually converts.
Why Shopify
Most SA Shopify stores look the same — and convert badly.
South Africa's online shopping is growing fast — internet penetration reached 78.9% of the population by early 2025, and ecommerce orders grew 47% in 2025. The opportunity is real — but most stores never capture it.
The problem isn't Shopify. It's that most stores are a stock theme with the logo swapped in, a checkout that doesn't support local payment, and a design that looks like a thousand other shops. Shoppers don't trust it, so they don't buy.
We build Shopify stores the way a serious brand would — custom design, the right SA payment gateways, fast mobile performance, and a checkout that's built to sell and stay compliant.
What we do
New builds, redesigns, migrations and ongoing support.
New Shopify stores
A complete store built from scratch — theme, products, SA payment gateways, shipping and POPIA-compliant checkout. Ready to sell.
Shopify redesigns
Already on Shopify but it looks generic or converts poorly? We rebuild the storefront around your brand and your buyer.
Migrations to Shopify
Move from Wix, WooCommerce, Takealot or a dead site to Shopify — products, images, URLs and SEO carried across cleanly.
Shopify support & growth
Ongoing help after launch — new products, theme tweaks, app setup, speed fixes and conversion improvements on a monthly Care Plan.
Pricing
Clear pricing.
One simple starting price — no confusing tiers. Shopify's own subscription (~R430 – R5,500/mo) is paid to Shopify directly.
Shopify stores from
R4,500
A clean, conversion-ready Shopify store with up to ~30 products — built around your brand and yours to own. Once-off, fixed price.
- Custom-styled Shopify store — not a stock theme dump
- Up to ~30 products loaded for you
- SA payment gateway set up (PayFast, Yoco or Peach)
- Shipping & tax configured for South Africa
- POPIA-compliant checkout + privacy policy
- Mobile-optimised, fast-loading storefront
What changes the price
The final price depends on a few things:
- How many products you're selling
- How custom you want the design & branding
- Extra apps & integrations (subscriptions, bundles, reviews)
- Migrating an existing store across to Shopify

Shopify stores — FAQs
At Intellium Inc., a professionally built Shopify store in South Africa starts from R4,500 — a clean, conversion-ready store with up to about 30 products. Larger catalogues, wholesale/B2B and high-volume Shopify Plus stores are quoted on request based on what you need.
Shopify's own subscription runs roughly R430 to R5,500 per month depending on the plan, paid directly to Shopify (that covers hosting, security and SSL). That's separate from the once-off build — our Shopify store design starts from R4,500, with an optional monthly Care Plan if you'd like us to keep improving the store.
Intellium Inc. offers Shopify website design across South Africa — store design, product loading, SA payment gateways (PayFast, Yoco) and POPIA-compliant checkout, from R4,500. We're Cape Town based and work with brands nationwide.
No — Shopify gives you the platform and templates, but it doesn't design or build your store for you. That's where we come in: we handle the design, branding, product setup and SA payment gateways so your store is done properly and ready to sell.
Shopify is a hosted e-commerce platform — you pay a monthly subscription and Shopify handles the hosting, security and tech while your store sells online. In South Africa it works with local payment gateways like PayFast and Yoco, supports rand pricing and local shipping, and we handle the design, product loading and setup so you can focus on running your business.
A simple Shopify store typically takes 1–2 weeks, a more custom store takes 3–4 weeks, and a large or Shopify Plus store takes 5–8 weeks. The biggest factor in the timeline is how quickly you provide product information, images and content — having those ready before we start can cut build time significantly.
Yes. Shopify works with all the major South African payment gateways — PayFast, Yoco, Peach Payments and Ozow. Every SA Shopify store connects a local gateway so customers can pay in rands, and we set this up and test it as standard on every build.
Yes. Shopify is one of the most reliable e-commerce platforms in the world and works well in South Africa — PayFast and Yoco, rand pricing and local shipping all supported. It's a strong choice for any SA business that wants to sell online without managing the tech themselves.
Yes. We migrate stores from Wix, WooCommerce, Squarespace, Takealot and custom sites to Shopify — carrying across your products, images, customer data where possible, and setting up 301 redirects so you keep your existing Google rankings. Migration is quoted with your build, based on how much needs moving across.
Intellium Inc. is a Cape Town–based web design agency that builds Shopify stores for South African small and growing businesses. We handle design, product loading, SA payment gateway setup, POPIA-compliant checkout, migration and ongoing support — all from Cape Town, in your timezone.
A Shopify store is POPIA compliant once it has a privacy policy, cookie consent notice and clear data-handling disclosure — which we build into every store. POPIA applies to any SA website that collects personal information, including checkouts and contact forms, and non-compliance can carry fines of up to R10 million, so we make compliance part of the standard build.
Shopify has no hard limit on the number of products, so your store can grow from a handful of items to tens of thousands. Our standard build from R4,500 loads up to around 30 products to get you started; for larger catalogues we use bulk CSV import and product feeds, quoted on request based on how many products you need loaded.
You pay Shopify directly for your monthly platform subscription, which includes hosting, security and SSL. You pay Intellium Inc. a once-off fee to design and build the store, and optionally a monthly Care Plan if you want us to handle updates, new products and improvements after launch.
Yes. Most clients keep us on a monthly Care Plan that covers theme updates, new product loading, app management, speed checks, backups and conversion improvements. It means your store keeps getting better instead of going stale the day after launch.
Yes. For high-volume retailers, B2B/wholesale sellers and brands that have outgrown standard Shopify, we build on Shopify Plus — with custom checkout, wholesale channels, automation and a dedicated launch process. Shopify Plus builds are quoted on request based on scope.
